Whatever you do, don’t talk about world-class gymnast Simone Biles’ husband.
The Houston native took offense to those who criticized her husband, Jonathan Owens, for saying he didn’t know who Biles was before they started dating. Owens, of course, was playing for the Texans when the two met.
Biles came to husband’s defense via her Instagram account.
“I’m going to quickly address this, the joke was never a joke! Y’all are blatantly being disrespectful to my relationship and my husband,” Biles wrote on the post. “So I’m gonna go ahead and say this one time. Respectfully, (expletive) off.
“If you keep commenting or tweeting at me I’m just going to block you. simple as that,” she added. “And no I don’t need to touch grass or whatever tf y’all suggest…”
Biles’ comments came after she won the U.C. Classic in Hartford, Conn. last weekend. Owens, who is now playing safety for the Chicago Bears, was there cheering on his wife.
Owens came under fire when earlier this year he went on the podcast The Pivot and the subject of his relationship with Biles came up. Owens revealed that he didn’t know of Biles prior to them meeting in 2020. Owents was upfront that he wasn’t into gymnastics at that point. He also said that Biles made the first move by reaching out during the COVID-19 lockdown.
Of course, Biles was already one of the most decorated athletes in the history of sports at that time.
Biles initially tried laughing off the criticism her husband was receiving, insisting that his comments didn’t bother her. But her feelings began to change as the comments became even more critical.
“That really hurt that they were talking about my husband like that because for me, it’s like, talk about me all you want, but don’t come from my family. Never,” Biles said.
The two married in April 2023 and are often seen supporting each other in their professional careers. Biles was a fixture at Texans practices and games when he was in Houston and she continued to be there in support during his tenure in Green Bay.
In return, Owens has been there as Biles has made a triumphant return to her sport and is now in full preparation for the 2024 Paris Olympics this summer.
