Sharpstown still alive for playoffs

The few, the Proud, The Apollos!

Manned with an 18-member roster, the Sharpstown Apollos marched into HISD’s Barnett Stadium last week and kept its faint playoff hopes alive with a 16-8 victory over Milby.

The win improved the Apollos to 3-3 overall and 2-3 in league play with remaining games against Furr (Nov. 3) and Austin (Nov. 10).

Trailing 6-3 at intermission Sharpstown put together a two-score third quarter that proved to be the difference in the game.

A key play in the first scoring drive was a 34-yard pass completion from quarterback Brandon Tryon to wide receiver Trevon Banks. Three plays later, Tryon followed his right guard into the end zone for Sharpstown’s first touchdown of the game.

Joseph Kapyyamba’s extra point gave Sharpstown a 10-3 advantage it would never relinquish with two minutes, 58 seconds left in the third quarter.

On the Apollos’ next offensive possession Tryon found Jacorey Hall behind the coverage for a 27-yard touchdown pass. The extra point kick was missed but Sharpstown had enough of a lead (16-6) to hold on for the victory.

Sharpstown continues to spit green and bleed gold for head coach Charles Perridon.
