Ever since Tisha Campbell-Martin filed for divorce from Duane Martin, we’ve been trying to wrap our heads around the end of one of our favorite celebrity couples after more than 20 years together. Meanwhile, they’re fighting to receive financial support from one another.
According to The Blast, Duane Martin filed court papers asking to be awarded spousal support from his estranged wife. This comes after Tisha requested the same in her divorce filing. She stated in court papers that she believed Duane had been hiding and misappropriating money during their marriage. According to The Blast, he’s responded to that claim, calling it “patently false.”
And despite her claims about Duane, the trustee who has been handling their bankruptcy (which they filed for in 2016) recently accused both Tisha and her estranged husband of hiding $50,000, and has sought for both parties to be sanctioned.
Aside from the money matters, Tisha and Duane both want joint custody of their two sons, Ezekiel, 8, and Xen, 16.
The couple, who wed in 1996, had been legally separated on the low since December of 2016. Tisha announced that she was filing for divorce in an emotional statement shared in February.
“After 27 years of being together and two amazing children, it pains me to announce that I’ve filed for divorce,” she said. “It’s an emotional time and I graciously ask for privacy for me, our children and the rest of our family.”
Soon after the split news surfaced, the couple made it seem as though they were and would always be on good terms. He called her his “BFF” while celebrating the news that a show she’s doing that’s produced by Robin Roberts had been given a pilot, and that he was moving forward with his work on the upcoming Bad Boys spinoff starring Gabrielle Union. She replied by saying, “Separate but one united front no matter what!!!”
