A Baytown woman is accused of fatally shooting her boyfriend, then chopping his body into small pieces with a machete and discarding the parts into different dumpsters at her apartment complex.

Cierra Alexis Sutton, 30, has been charged with murder.

Investigators said Sutton killed her boyfriend, Steven Coleman, 32, at the Briarwood Village Apartments at 1711 James Bowie Drive. The victim was last seen on Aug. 18, and Sutton reported him missing two days later. According to documents, Coleman told friends if he ever went missing, police should investigate Sutton.

Court documents said an anonymous witness revealed Sutton initially told them Coleman was missing, but later admitted she shot him in the head while he was sleeping, cut him up with the machete, then wrapped his body parts up in sheets and duct tape to be disposed of in the dumpsters. A friend of Sutton’s also told detectives Sutton called her one morning to tell her she shot the victim the night before while their daughter was in the living room.

At a press conference Monday, Lt. Steve Dorris of the Baytown Police Department said, “Cierra confided to multiple people in Louisiana that she had, in fact, shot and killed Steven inside their apartment, dismembered his body, then disposed of his remains.”

Officers found multiple body parts, including a male torso, at a landfill in Chambers County. Investigators said they have a strong reason to believe that the remains belong to Coleman, but the police department is awaiting autopsy results to confirm.

Law enforcement tracked the 30-year-old down in Metarie, Louisiana. Sutton was taken into custody on Sept. 14 without incident, and investigators said she showed little emotion.

“Uncaring. No remorse. That’s the best way I can describe it,” Dorris said. “As far as a motive as to why she would do this, we just don’t know.”

Sutton remains behind bars in Louisiana and is awaiting extradition.
