The recent near-fatal assassination attempt on Donald Trump has left many Black folks either questioning the validity of the shooting as a stunt or laughing it off because it was probably another attempt to draw more attention away from President Joe Biden and his administration.
As the November elections get closer, it’s crucial to move beyond the jokes and understand the serious implications of a potential Trump presidency, especially in light of Project 2025.
Black communities have historically turned adversity into strength, often finding humor in dire situations. This tendency to “make lemons out of lemonade” has pros and cons. Yet, the gravity of the situation calls for a shift from laughter to hyper-focus.
Trump’s past actions and the policies he endorses should not be taken lightly. We all know that if former President Barack Obama (or any other Black person for that matter) behaved the same way, that man would have been thrown in prison. Obama’s every move was hyper-scrutinized, and he would have been held accountable for actions that Trump often sidesteps without consequence. We don’t know what guardian angel has been covering Trump, but whatever it is seems to be working.
Trump’s apparent invincibility and lack of accountability pose a significant threat if he were to be re-elected. His behaviors, often dismissed as mere antics by some, have far-reaching implications.

For instance, Project 2025, spearheaded by former Trump administration officials, outlines a vision that threatens to dismantle key societal structures and rights. This ambitious blueprint includes sacking thousands of civil servants, expanding presidential powers, dismantling the Department of Education, enforcing sweeping tax cuts, banning pornography, halting sales of the abortion pill, and much more. Each measure represents a profound shift in the American governance and civil liberties landscape.
The entertainment value of Trump’s rhetoric and antics pales in comparison to the tangible consequences of his governance.
The stakes of the upcoming election are extraordinarily high. Those entertained by Trump’s actions must recognize the potential for long-term damage. Trump’s policies and the Republican agenda pose significant threats to civil liberties and social progress, particularly for marginalized communities. The entertainment value of Trump’s rhetoric and antics pales in comparison to the tangible consequences of his governance.
Black people, known for their resilience and ability to find light in the darkest times, must channel this strength into political awareness and action. The humor surrounding Trump’s missteps should not distract from the pressing need to engage in the political process. The implications of a Trump re-election extend far beyond entertainment; they threaten the core values of democracy and equality.

The near-fatal assassination attempt on Trump serves as a grim reminder of the volatile political climate we inhabit. Can you imagine having to discuss assassination attempts on Presidents in 2024? Is that a joke to you? I’m just tired of this madness, and you should be too.
