In the ever-evolving public service landscape, Judge Lillian Henny Alexander is a beacon of integrity, compassion and modern leadership.

As the presiding judge for the 507th District Court in Harris County, Alexander brings a unique and empathetic lens to family court issues, shaped by her own experiences as a working mother, her dynamic career as a family law attorney, and her changing the judicial game as a social media influencer.

A champion for families and justice

Alexander’s journey to the bench is marked by dedication and an unwavering commitment to justice. Before becoming a judge, she was a founding partner of the Henny Law Firm, a Houston-based practice specializing in family law and divorce litigation. Over a decade, she successfully litigated complex child custody, child support and visitation disputes, earning a reputation as a formidable advocate for families navigating difficult transitions.

Repeatedly recognized as one of Texas’ Top Women Family Lawyers, she has handled hundreds of family law cases across Harris County and beyond.

Her work has always been driven by a deep-seated belief that children deserve stability, security and a nurturing environment no matter their parents’ legal circumstances. As a judge, she remains steadfast in ensuring that families receive fair treatment and that children’s best interests are always prioritized.

“With a deep sense of purpose-driven by my experiences as a lawyer, volunteer, and, most profoundly, as a daughter of a teacher and a working mother to two young children,” Alexander said. “The challenges faced by working parents are not just legal matters for me; they are personal. Navigating the complexities of family court is not an abstract concept but a reality that I understand intimately.”

She added, “As a mother, I have felt the strains of balancing a demanding career with the joys and responsibilities of parenthood. I bring a fresh perspective to the table, one grounded in the daily struggles of working people who are often caught in the intricate web of family court proceedings. I firmly believe that family court decisions can have long-lasting developmental outcomes for children.”

A digital-age public servant

Her ability to bridge the gap between traditional legal practice and the digital world sets Alexander apart. Before taking the bench, she was a well-respected attorney and a powerful voice in legal education through social media.

“I recognize the need for accessible legal knowledge,” she said. “That’s why I leveraged my platform to educate and empower thousands about family law, legal rights, and navigating the court system,” Alexander said.

In fact, her social media savviness helped her secure her judicial seat. Incumbent judge Julia Maldonaldo seemed a shoo-in to reclaim her seat in 507th Family District Court, having staved off any competition for four years.

Though Alexander was younger and not as well-known in the political sphere, she had a following via her growing social media platform @shessoverdressed. That online presence made her a role model for the modern-day legal professional.

On the digital front, Alexander’s campaign showcased her doing what she had always done—engaging with her community, mentoring young people, and upholding the law—making it feel organic and authentic. For those working alongside her, it was a clear reminder that her dedication to public service was genuine and would seamlessly translate into her role on the bench if elected.

“As someone who has been in this space for over a decade, it was refreshing to see how Judge Alexander leveraged her digital presence—not as a forceful political tool, but as an extension of her everyday life,” said Shea Smith, a Houston-based political strategist and digital content creator who consulted on Alexander’s campaign. “Her platform naturally wove politics into content that highlighted her fashion, lifestyle, and family, creating an engaging and educational experience. It’s something I haven’t seen from a candidate, locally or otherwise, in a very long time.”

Her transition from attorney and social media influencer to elected judge underscores the evolving role of public officials in the digital era. By utilizing social media as a tool for legal education, she has redefined how the judiciary engages with the community, breaking down barriers and making the legal system more approachable for everyday citizens.

A Black woman leading in law

As a Black woman in the judiciary, Alexander is acutely aware of the significance of her position. The legal profession, particularly the judiciary, has long been a space where women of color have faced systemic barriers. Her success is a testament to resilience, excellence and the importance of representation.

A proud graduate of Louisiana State University and Thurgood Marshall School of Law (TSU), Alexander’s achievements demonstrate the power of education and mentorship. Her affiliation with organizations such as the Houston Association of Women Lawyers, the Houston Young Lawyers Association, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. reflects her dedication to uplifting others and fostering diversity within the legal community.

Fairness and service

Alexander’s mission is clear: to serve with dedication, integrity, and a commitment to fairness. She believes that the courtroom should be a space where every individual—regardless of background, socioeconomic status, or legal knowledge—feels heard and understood. Her approach to justice is both compassionate and firm, ensuring that the law is upheld while recognizing the human element in every case she presides over. And oh, yeah. She’s going to keep her Instagram page at @shesoverdressed

“I’m officially serving justice and unofficially sharing moments [on my social media],” she said. “My page has been and will continue to be for inspiration and education as a public servant.”
