One of my favorite books is “Weapons of Mass Distraction: And Other Sermons for a New World Order.” I don’t remember the name of the incredible author who penned that masterpiece, but I do remember the book’s point – don’t let folk who have no business trying to control Blackfolk’s business dictate to us what we should believe and what we should kick to the curb.
That said, there’s a current weapon of mass distraction (WMD) which, unfortunately, seems to be working. It’s convincing folk to focus on Biden and his age rather than Donald Trump and his 34 felony convictions, 26 accusations of sexual violence, six times running businesses into bankruptcy, two impeachments while in the Oval Office, three other court cases dealing with his attempts to overthrow democracy, along with his self-described penchant for unsolicited p-grabbing and oogling at under-aged female beauty contestants.
But again, no one is talking about Trump’s immoral, lawless ass. Everyone is fixated on Biden and questions of his fitness for another term.
Here are five reasons why the current Biden narrative is a WMD we need to avoid and/or destroy.
Dictatorship will destroy democracy forever
Falling for the WMD takes our eyes off the real danger – the little piece of U.S. democracy that still exists will be gone forever with a Donald dictatorship. He’s already said that’s who and what he’ll be if he wins in November. The majority of Republican voters have expressed their willingness to accept and support a dictator. And I don’t mean this theoretically or symbolically. A national poll was taken of GOP members asked if they would support Trump and his claims that he wants to be a dictator, and nearly 60% said they were down for that cause (yet, they still take offense when he’s compared to Hitler and others… make it make sense).
Moreover, the SCOTUS recently ruled on a case that places Trump above the law. He can do damn near anything he wants as president and that action will be deemed acceptable, no matter how illegal it is for you and me. So, whether it’s assassinating a political rival, throwing journalists and politicians he doesn’t like in jail, or siccing the US military and special forces on folk protesting for Black lives, women’s rights, educational freedoms, universal healthcare, criminal justice reform, ecological protections, workers’ rights, or torturing people that simply rub him and his ego the wrong way, he can do it all without fear of ever being held accountable.
Trump promises violence
This point, related to the previous one of his dictatorial power, cannot be overstated. Trump has shown that he is enamored with dictators who have the power to jail, beat and kill whoever they want. Name a dictator who is currently living and running his country, and I can show you where Trump has met with them, complimented them, worshipped them and literally stated that he wished he had their power to maim, mistreat and murder whoever he wanted. Trump, who will throw anyone under the bus because the only person he loves is himself, was literally egging on his Jan. 6 insurrectionists to lynch Trump’s own VP Mike Pence, other Republicans who he had issues with and any and all Democrats the insurrectionist traitors could get their hands on. And you may recall that while Trump was in office, he asked his administration members why he couldn’t simply order police to go shoot peaceful Black Lives Matter protesters willy-nilly (it still blows my mind that any melanated human being would even consider voting for this anti-Black ghoul).
Ending 1st Amendment right to protest
Related to the point listed above, given that Trump will literally be above the law, he will gladly and wholly crush dissent and have to answer to no one. Several states across the country have already made it illegal – or damn near – to protest. How “un-American” is that? What’s crazy is, the right to protest is (or at least, was) considered one of the most basic democratic rights of U.S. citizens. Historically, every time another country violently put down protesters, that country was used as an example of what America is not, and how in America the right to protest is holy and sacred and is central to “our” democracy. The fact that this sacred right is disappearing right in front of our eyes is a sign that “Rome” is falling for real.
Local/Global Implications
Falling for the Three Card Monte or banana in the tailpipe WMD of Biden’s questioned fitness for office and allowing an amoral, idiot, intellectually uncurious, ego-maniacal sociopath Trump to recapture the most powerful elected position on planet earth is to put every issue we hold dear at risk. Voting rights. Environmental justice. Black maternal mortality. Women’s rights to have agency and autonomy over their bodies. Criminal justice reform. Justice in Gaza, Haiti, the Congo, and the Sudan. Local voter control over our public school districts. All of that will be gone with the wind. The house is literally on fire! And things can and will get waaaaay worse under a white nationalist dictator who has a whole-ass insurrectionist Supreme Court, a whole-ass insurrectionist U.S. House and U.S. Senate and a whole-ass white nationalist media machine behind him. The idea that things can get so bad that folk will wake up and do something different, is a lie. No less than activist legend Assata Shakur said what others have also stated: that when conditions get worse, instead of people responding and fighting back, they most often simply get used to the worsening conditions and accept them as the “new normal.” If we allow another Trump/Maga/white domestic terrorist Proud Boys/Project 2025 presidential administration, I shudder to think what “new normal” we will allow ourselves to accept.
100-year lockdown of white minority rule
And to that point about accepting a “new normal” that is far below what we deserve as human beings, that means taking your eye off who and what Trump is and the anti-Black, anti-Brown, anti-human, anti-women, anti-children, anti-science, anti-education, anti-environment, anti-humanity faction that he represents. Hence, focusing on the madness of the recent Biden narrative opens the door to a century of South African apartheid-style white minority rule. The Electoral College has always been an instrument to guarantee that whites had an outsized voting voice when it comes to deciding the presidency. The U.S. Senate acts as that outsized voting block that wields power for senators in far greater proportion than the number of folks they represent demand. One U.S. Senator in Montana, a state that has fewer people than Harris County, has just as much voting power as a U.S. Senator from California, New York, or Texas.
With a SCOTUS standing at a 6-to-3 hyper-conservative (read white) voting advantage, another Trump presidency would lock down SCOTUS (one-third of the federal government) for decades. With Trump in office, the older white nationalist judges can retire and be replaced by 30-something-year-olds who can sit on the bench for 50-70 years. And Trump would be in a position to appoint even more white nationalist SCOTUS judges if anything should happen to the three who are more progressive/democracy-leaning justices, giving the highest court in the land a potential 7-to-2, 8-to-1, or 9-to-0 split. Imagine that. Nine Clarence Thomas types issuing rulings that define what is law and what is not. The fact that the U.S. grows darker, younger, and more progressive demographically every second of every day won’t matter if the folk who wield all political and legal power are avowed white nationalists. When that was the set-up in Azania (South Africa) it took hundreds of years and international pressure (led by Blacks from the U.S.) to semi-topple apartheid. With white minority rule in the U.S., and right-wing governments popping us in nations globally, the planet literally needs our fight and our votes now more than at any time in the history of Planet Earth.
