Chris Brown recently revealed on social media that he was disinvited from participating in the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game this past weekend in Indianapolis. He claimed the NBA rescinded their invitation due to backlash over his past domestic violence incident with Rihanna.
โI was asked by the NBA to play in the all star game this year! Only for them to call later and say they couldnโt do IT because of their sponsors like RUFFLES,โ Brown shared on his Instagram Stories on Saturday, Page Six reports.
โAt this point Iโm sick of people bothering me and Iโm tired of living in the fโking past. I POSTED THE EMAILS SO YALL COULD SEE. The NBA still was tryna get me to come and sit court sideโฆ NOT FโKING HAPPENING,โ Brown continued.
The R&B crooner added, โI ONLY GO WHERE IM APPRECIATED.โ
Brown shared email screenshots indicating he had initially been asked to play and make travel arrangements before later being told sponsors like Ruffles snack company did not want him included. Brown expressed frustration, saying he only wants to go where he feels appreciated.
In a statement to USA TODAY Sunday, Ruffles said while the chips company sponsored the NBA event, it “did not have any involvement in, nor visibility to, any player decisions or celebrity invite discussions.”
In a separate statement, the NBA also confirmed that Ruffles “had no input on the Celebrity Game rosters.”
The news comes as Brown was also recently criticized for being spotted with Kanye West, who has made controversial comments perceived by some as antisemitic. Brown defended himself from accusations of antisemitism, saying he does not want to spread hate or be used as a pawn.
Brown hit up social media to respond to critics. โLet me make this perfectly clear before yโall try to use me as a pawn โฆ Ima a Piru, I aint Muslim or Jewish so donโt start no s*** wont be no s***!!!โ he wrote, according to TMZ.
โIm trying to be peaceful but please do not wake up the demon in me! โฆ Go on about your f****** day,โ Breezy added.
