At this point #BlackGirlMagic and Serena Williams have become synonymous.
Every time the professional tennis player steps foot on the court, she means business. And little does she know, continues to inspire black women of all ages to pursue their dreams no matter no far fetched it may seem.
And over the weekend, Williams continued to motivate many while making history. The 35-year-old played against her sister Venus Williams at the Australian Open final on Saturday (Jan. 28) and won, landing her a historic 23rd Grand Slam title.
After her win, Serena is now the only tennis player—male or female— to win 23 Grand Slam single titles in the Open Era of tennis, which began in 1968.

“It’s such a great feeling to have 23,” Serena said after beating Venus 6-4, 6-4 in straight sets. “It really feels great. I’ve been chasing it for a really long time. It feels like, really long time. When it got on my radar, I knew I had an opportunity to get there, and I’m here.”
While her win was big for her, Serena also made the time to show her sister some love too, posting a photo of the two in an embrace after the game. “The top is never lonely when your best friend @venuswilliams is there. Here’s to #23. What a night for our family,” she captioned the photo.
Her latest victory places her one step closer to beating retired Australian player, Margaret Court’s all-time record of 24 titles.
