Black Twitter’s punching bag of the day appears to be Ciara thanks to her latest tweet concerning women and marriage.
So many folks are getting in on the bashing that the R&B singer is currently one of the top trending topics on Twitter.
On Sunday, the award-winning singer and wife of Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, tweeted a clip of a sermon given by pastor John W. Gray III. The topic of the sermon was the secret of a successful marriage and fans, and others, don’t seem to be particularly impressed with the message. She also used the hashtag #levelup.
Gray has some um…interesting messages that he shares in the sermon. Among them, he puts forth the idea that the bible scripture states, “‘He that finds a wife finds a good thing.’ It didn’t say, ‘He that finds a girl that he’s attracted to, who he then begins to date, who he then calls his girlfriend, who he then buys a ring, proposes to and makes her his fiancée, who he then marries later who becomes his wife.’”
Pastor Gray didn’t stop there, he went on to add, “You’re not a wife when I marry you, you’re a wife when I find you.”
Twitter seemed to feel like this was a message about being a submissive wife and that’s something that most women, and many men, have been over for some time.
One Twitter user posted, “Ciara’s playing a dangerous game. You should never, no matter how perfect your relationship/marriage appears to be, sit on a throne and tell people why they’re not romantically successful. You can be the queen of the ball today and have cake in your face tomorrow!”
A few hours later Ciara responded to the dragging by posting another #LevelUp message:
“choices. I found myself at my lowest moment. I was a single mom sitting at home, and then I realized that the perfect love I was looking for was how God loves me, how He wants me to be loved, and who He was calling me to be as a mom and as a woman. That’s when I realized that married or not married I needed to love myself. #LevelUp”
