The Emancipation Economic Development Council (EEDC) hosted “Anchor Institutions: Tools for Wealth Building,” a luncheon designed to inform and empower Third Ward residents and stakeholders with tactics for taking economic control of their neighborhood. Ted Howard, executive director of the Democracy Collaborative shared the successes his organization had with communities in his native Cleveland, Ohio. The EEDC, led by Reverend Robert McGee (Trinity United Methodist Church) and Dr. Assata Richards (Sankofa Research Institute) exists to create consensus among community groups for preserving and revitalizing the area. Event coordinators Cleveland Gite and Rev. John Eigege were joined by Deloyd Parker, Edith Selgary, Blynthia Scott, Bishop Frank Rush, JoAnn Vallie Rush, Bianca Mahmood, Imarogbe Stokes, Kofi Taharka, Munirah Olabisi, Zeinab Bakhiet and more.
