The HMAAC hosted Attica Locke, author of Pleasantville, the Cutting Season and Bluebird, for a book signing as part of its Literary Lecture Series. Locke, who is also a writer for the TV hit Empire, read excerpts from her works and answered questions from the audience. HMAAC director John Guess Jr. welcomed a pack house of attendees that included Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, Gene and Aubrey Locke, Melanie Lawson (ABC13), Clarisse Freeman, Misty Starks, Lindi Yeni, Dr. Gloria Batiste-Roberts, Necole Irvin, Abi Shitta-Bey, Tereasa Doss, Dominic Clay, Dr. Paul Minifee, Pamela Minifee, and many others
