The Houston VIP Poetry Slam recently hosted its monthly night of dynamic spoken word competition at Warehouse Live. Houston VIP Poetry Slam is the highest nationally-ranked poetry slam team in Houston, and the second-highest in the state. Besides hosting monthly competitions they also offer writing workshops. This month’s event served as a fundraiser to send the team to compete at nationals again this year with the hopes of taking the top prize. Event organizer and poet Stacey Bension and event MC Jeremy Eugene welcomed several poets and guests including Datha Gary, Lorna Taylor, Jordan Simpson, Marcell Murphy, Quiet Storm, Dani Beale, Stephanie Bension, Tangie Cooper, Kayla Pete, LaToya Pommier, and Chandler Corbett, among others.
