Texas Southern University (TSU) recently hosted its inaugural Maroon & Gray Affair, the school’s signature fundraising event. Held at the Marriot Marquis Downtown, the event exceeded all expectations by raising over $800,000 for student scholarships. Melinda Spaulding (Fox 26) and Nephew Tommy (Steve Harvey Morning Show) served as MCs, while Judy Smith, the politico who inspired the hit series “Scandal,” served as guest speaker. Four TSU students, Brianna Batiste, Anthony Collier, Ashtyn Duncan and Kaleb Taylor were recognized for their academic and civic accomplishments. Two alumni, Alaina Benford and Tony Wyllie, were honored, as well. The SOS Band provided live entertainment for attendees, including U.S. representatives Sheila Jackson Lee and Al Green, Larry Williams, Andrea Breaux, Mathew Knowles, Gerald Smith, Anita Smith, Jolanda Jones, and many more
