The NAACP Houston Branch celebrated the grand opening of its Disaster Support Command Center, an entity designed to provide accessible and immediate recovery support to disaster impacted individuals, families and communities in Houston and surrounding areas. Derrick Johnson, the NAACP’s interim president and CEO, was on hand, along with Gary Bledsoe, president of the NAACP Texas State Conference, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, Mayor Sylvester Turner, Johnny Mata (LULAC), Reverend William Lawson, Rep. Ron Reynolds, Rep. Jarvis Johnson, Dr. James Douglas (NAACP Houston Branch president), Yolanda Smith, Gerald Womack, Carolyn Scantlebury, Georgia Provost, representatives from several NAACP college chapters, members of Creative Group Economics, Red Cross personnel and many others
