Houston City Council Member Amanda Edwards kicked off her Community Empowerment Signature Series with a “Be The Solution: Empowerment Film & Summit. The event, held at TSU’s College of Education, is part of an ongoing initiative of community-based efforts designed to empower Houstonians with knowledge about key issues, and equip them to effect change. Attendees watched the film “The Strange Demise of Jim Crow,” detailing the peaceful desegregation of Houston. Afterwards, Edwards and Pastor Ray Bady facilitated a dialogue between panelists and participants. Attendees included Defender CEO Sonceria Messiah Jiles, Jerry Ford Jr., Judson Robinson III, Dr. Christine LeVeaux-Haley, Daniel Vasquez, filmmaker Thomas Cole, Alma Contreras, Justin Lee, and many more
