As part of the 2019 Houston International Jazz Festival, Bubbha Thomas’ Jazz Education, Inc. and the Houston Arts Alliance hosted the Summer Jazz Workshop Scholarship Jazz Brunch. Held at the Junior League of Houston, the event featured performances by the all-star Summer Jazz Workshop Band and national jazz artist Julie Johnson. Al Campbell, Kelly Dean and Lloyd Hughes instructed youth ages 10-17 for five weeks honing their jazz music skills. Tyler Johnson and Nicholas Andres received SJW College Scholarships, while Shironda White won the Xtra Mile Award. Attendees included brunch chairperson Pamela Zackory, State Rep. Ron Reynolds, Dr. Jonita Reynolds. U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, Monique & Ruby Adams, Charles Washington, Dr. Alicia Lacey, Stephanie Johnson, Koya Beavers, KTSU’s Donna Franklin, Larry Don Johnson and Sheldon T. Nunn and a host of others.
