It’s February, and with that comes Black History Month, when we celebrate Black historical figures and their accomplishments dating back to the 1800s.

But invariably, the other side complains about why there isn’t a white history month. The reply is always, “That’s what the other 11 months in a calendar year are dedicated to.”

Well not so fast. Maybe the Anglo vantage point may be onto something.

White people have certainly earned their month to recognize all of the destruction and hate many of them have perpetrated on others in this country. We can start with the great myth of how Christopher Columbus discovered America, befriended the Native Americans and broke bread with them before slaughtering them. We celebrate that as Thanksgiving.

We can perhaps celebrate white people for coming up with the idea to go over to Africa and bring back our ancestors to this country to be owned, beaten, raped and stripped of any sense of pride and dignity in the most horrific case of genocide known to man.

We could go on and on in celebrating for stealing land, robbing and killing of innocent people just because they didn’t look like them or dared to stand up for themselves.

In our latest episode, the Defender Roundtable panel weighs on the idea of having a White History Month to peel back covers on how America was really made.
