The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and Airbnb have announced a regional partnership designed to create economic opportunities for underserved communities in the Houston area.
The goal is to increase awareness in Houston’s African American population of alternative ways to earn income. The partnership will include community outreach and education on how to have your home be a “host” home in addition to promoting career opportunities for minorities at Airbnb.
“Through our work with the NAACP in Houston, we want to invite the black community to learn about hosting opportunities, supplier diversity and careers at Airbnb,” said Janaye Ingram, Airbnb’s Director of National Partnerships. “Home sharing is a great way for communities of color to earn valuable extra income and highlight all that Houston has to offer, as one of the largest and most diverse cities in the country.”
The partnership already exists in Atlanta, Seattle and Chicago. Airbnb’s goal is to achieve 13% representation of underrepresented minorities in their U.S. workforce by the first quarter of 2020.
