On June 14-15, Bush High School will welcome potential baseball recruits to the National Urban Professional Baseball League’s (NUPBL) Houston area tryouts. The NUPBL will launch four new Urban Baseball League teams in the spring of 2018 and is currently searching for new talent. Baseball players 17 years of age and older are invited to attend the tryouts at Bush High School (6707 FM 1464, Richmond, TX, 77407). The league is offering an eight-week fall league in Arizona, September through October 2017. All participants who make the teams will be compensated. The creation of this professional baseball league is designed to provide family entertainment and honor the history and memories of past African America baseball players (the same as the Negro League Museum in Kansas City, Missouri). The names of the teams in this league will reflect that of past Negro League players (i.e. Rube Foster All-Stars, Cool Papa Bell All Stars, William “Skinny Legs” Blair and the Buck O’Neil All Stars).
“We are seeking to identify potential sponsors for the NUPBL that support diversity, engage employees, and promote family interaction,” said Michael E. Mayden, Director of Operations, and former Major League scout and college/high school baseball coach. “This will be a win-win opportunity for all parties as we are projecting attendance of 50,000 to 200,000 families annually.”
