The month of October is – and has been – a busy one at Texas Southern University.
- The university’s annual homecoming events continue with the Grand Tiger Parade at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22. It begins at Burkett and Cleburne streets, travels up Cleburne to Almeda, turns left on Almeda to Blodgett, turns left on Blodgett and ends on Tierwester. The parade will include floats, drill teams, car clubs, the Ocean of Soul Marching Band and Miss TSU CaSandra Cantue and her royal court. At 2 p.m. Saturday, the TSU Tigers face off against Jackson State at BBVA Compass Stadium. Tickets can be purchased at www.bbvacompassstadium.com or by calling 713-313-4355.
- TSU and Metro reached an agreement to provide complimentary round-trip rides on its rail line for TSU students and ticket/pass holders during all home football games. Students must have a valid ID and all other patrons must show a game-day ticket to ride rail to and from BBVA Compass Stadium. After Jackson State, the Tigers have two remaining home games on the 2016 schedule: Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Nov. 12 at 2 p.m. and Grambling State on Nov. 19 at 2 p.m.
- October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and several TSU groups participated in the annual campaign. Students gathered in front of the Student Center for a ceremonial pink balloon release to remember individuals who lost their battle with the disease. Recreation Center staff held a Pink-Out for Breast Cancer Awareness event for students. College of Education faculty and staff “turned up the pink” in support of breast cancer awareness, and the Human Resources department sponsored a campus educational seminar.
