Want to go on a luxurious trip to Paris with the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture where you’ll learn about the city that famously embraced African-American expats?
It’s going to cost you — $5,285 for a single person or $4,390 for double occupancy.
The nine-day trip, led by John W. Frankin, the museum’s senior manager of the office of external affairs, is scheduled for May 6-14 in 2018.
On the trip, you’ll learn about the African-American expatriates, military heroes, jazz musicians and writers who called the City of Light home. You’ll get to watch a screening of a documentary about African Americans in Paris from the 1920s and 1930s and chat with its filmmakers.
Included are visits to the Champs Elysses, the Latin Quarter, Versailles, the Louvre, Montmartre and other famous stomping grounds.
“Discover the Paris that welcomed Josephine Baker, Langston Hughes and other African American luminaries,” the brochure reads. “From Sally Hemings to Richard Wright, African Americans have long found an acceptance in Paris that they did not find at home in the United States.”
A walking tour will include samples of French cuisine along the way.
Visitors will also enjoy first-class accommodations at the Hotel L’Echiquier Opera Paris.
The pricetag includes tour directors and guides, all gratuities, on-tour medical and dental insurance, a reading list and other pre-tour information, meals, the hotel stay and all visits. A $500 deposit is required to reserve your spot. The final payment is due 95 days before departure. Airfare to and from your departure city to Paris is not included.
