Texas Southern University just got its own Spaceport campus

Texas Southern University officially opened a new aviation facility at the Houston Spaceport on April 25.
The 20,000-square-foot hangar at Ellington Field serves as a satellite campus and houses a fleet of 12 Cirrus SR20 aircraft purchased by the university in 2025. There’s also 4,500 square feet of classroom and office space, plus an 8,000-gallon fuel tank that’s expected to save the program hundreds of thousands of dollars in fuel costs each year.
The City of Houston invested $5.5 million to build the facility.
โThe opening of Texas Southern University at Houston Spaceport underscores our commitment to innovation, workforce development, and academic excellence,โ said TSU President James W. Crawford, III. โThis partnership enhances our aviation program for current students and future aviators who choose to pursue their degree at Texas Southern. It also strengthens our role in preparing a diverse pipeline of highly skilled professionals for careers in aviation, aerospace, and beyond.โ
United Airlines has been offering scholarships to TSU aviation students since 2022 and brought the program into its Aviate pilot pipeline in 2024. Southwest Airlines has also accepted five TSU students into its Destination 225 pipeline program. And this spring, Delta added TSU to its Propel pilot career path program.
Megan Thee Stallion announces breakup
Itโs been a headline-heavy few weeks for Megan Thee Stallion, and this time, itโs all about matters of the heart.
Recently, she got emotional as she closed out her performance as Zidler in Moulin Rouge! The Musical.
The performance followed the Houston rapper’s announcement of her breakup with NBA star Klay Thompson.
โIโve made the decision to end my relationship with Klay,” she said. “Trust, fidelity, and respect are non-negotiable for me in a relationship, and when those values are compromised, thereโs no real path forward. Iโm taking this time to prioritize myself and move ahead with peace and clarity.โ
The pair reportedly started dating in 2025, quickly becoming one of those celebrity couples fans couldn’t stop watching. They showed up together publicly and shared glimpses of their relationship online.
They even appeared to be building a life together. According to TMZ, she posted a photo of herself and Thompson holding keys to a new home.
But by April 2026, Megan confirmed the split, pointing to issues around trust and emotional treatment, a moment that clearly struck a chord with fans who have followed her journey through her relationships.
Houston is growing, but not the way school districts hoped

Houston has boomed over the past two decades, jumping from 5.2 million people in 2005 to 7.5 million by 2023. However, according to a study conducted by Rice University, the growth has not been reflected in public school enrollment.
Leaders have expressed concern about the slow recovery of enrollment in Houstonโs public schools after the COVID-19 pandemic, with some grappling with enrollment declines and the consequent decreases in funding.
Per the report, birth rates have actually stayed pretty flat, from about 91,000 babies born in 2005 to 96,500 in 2023. Most of the region’s growth is coming from adults relocating for jobs and opportunities, but not from families having more children. The population, in simple terms, is aging, with the percentage of people below age 50 decreasing and the population of people over age 50 increasing.
The real action is happening in the suburbs. Districts like Lamar CISD and Willis ISD saw population jumps of nearly 70% and 42%, respectively, between 2013 and 2023, while urban core districts like Pasadena ISD barely budged at 1.9% growth. Meanwhile, the population within Houston ISDโs boundaries grew about 11% during this time frame.
For districts that grew by at least 40%, they also saw a rise in enrollment, with 164 kindergartners for every 100 babies born there five years earlier, due to families moving in with kids.
Charter schools add another layer to the equation. Districts with more charters consistently enrolled fewer public school kindergartners than expected.
The report suggested that school districts must track migration and school choices in addition to birth rates, as these factors are reshaping enrollment in Houstonโs public schools.
