Houston-area residents were shocked and saddened by the death of City Councilmember Larry Green, who represented District K. Green, 52, was found dead in his home on March 6. He was remembered as a caring public servant and community advocate. Green’s death was ruled accidental due to an overdose of methamphetamine and chloroethane. Green was sworn into office in 2012 and represented a newly formed district encompassing the edge of the Texas Medical Center and the portion of Houston in Fort Bend County. Martha Castex-Tatum, Green’s director of Constituent Services, defeated eight other candidates in a special election for the seat.
