NBA superstar LeBron James has suggested that his recent two-year, $101.4 million contract with the Los Angeles Lakers might be the final one of his career. The 39-year-old forward, who has already played 20 seasons in the league, spoke candidly about his future in an interview with ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.

“It could be [the last contract I will ever sign],” James said, adding, “I’d never sit up here and say, ‘Oh, maybe not.’ Yeah, it could be. Easily. But we’ll see what happens.”

Despite his age, James continues to perform at an elite level. Last season, he averaged 25.7 points, 8.3 assists, and 7.3 rebounds per game, earning his 20th All-Star appearance and a spot on the All-NBA Third Team.

James also addressed recent criticism of his son, Bronny, who was drafted 55th overall by the Lakers this year. LeBron praised Bronny’s ability to ignore negative comments, describing him as “the coolest” and “the complete opposite of his dad” in handling public scrutiny.

Regarding the Lakers’ quiet free agency period, James expressed understanding, stating, “It takes two to tango.” He acknowledged the front office’s efforts to attract top talent and emphasized the team’s readiness to move forward.

As James enters what could be the twilight of his career, he remains focused on contributing to the Lakers’ success while potentially sharing the court with his son, fulfilling a long-held dream of becoming the first active father-son duo in NBA history.

The four-time MVP is currently participating in Team USA’s training camp alongside Lakers teammate Anthony Davis, as he continues to prepare for the upcoming NBA season and possibly the final chapters of his illustrious basketball career.
