While astrology can provide valuable insights into compatibility, it is important to remember that it does not determine the fate of a relationship.

Are you the type who loves scrolling through the back of newspapers or cracks open a fortune cookie to enjoy a witty take on all the zodiac signs?

Or you’re the one who quickly connects with a new zodiac sign, hoping it mirrors some familiar astrological traits.

Here’s the deal: human behavior is complex and can’t be boiled down too quickly. There are stereotypes linked with each zodiac sign, and we often see how much truth they hold in our everyday lives.

So, when someone asks you, “What’s your sign?” it’s important to understand where the compatibility aspect of this question comes from.

Zodiac signs have a history

The zodiac, a list of 12 signs in a horoscope, is linked to Earth’s movement in the sky. These signs come from constellations outlining the sun’s apparent journey throughout the year. Although you might assume horoscope dates align with the sun passing through each constellation, they often don’t. This discrepancy arises because astrology and astronomy follow distinct systems.

For thousands of years, different cultures worldwide have used the zodiac signs. These symbols are potent archetypes, helping us make sense of life’s complexities. Each sign has unique traits, energy, and purpose, showcasing their significant cosmic influence on our lives.

Astrology has witnessed a significant revival, amplified by social media platforms and a surge in online content. Millennials, in particular, find solace in seeking guidance from the stars in an era of uncertainty.

Can you cultivate relationships with your sign?

Astrologers, individuals well-versed in decoding the language of the stars, offer diverse perspectives. Local Astrologer and board member of the Houston Astrological Society, Gandhari Bouligny, has been a spiritual life path reader for people to help clarify important decisions about health, career, and relationships since 1999. When she went through a mid-life crisis in her late thirties, she asked herself “What am I going to do with the rest of my life?” So, she tapped into astrology to study earthly and human events through the observations and interpretations of fixed stars, planets, the moon, and the sun.

“When it comes to modern understanding of astrology, people judge others based on preconceived notions, and that is just a recipe for failure,” she said. “It’s good to use signs to gain some information around the person’s personality, but that shouldn’t be the only factor for whether you pursue a relationship with someone.”

By examining our birth charts, astrologers can determine how our relationships function and provide guidance on improving them.

She stated astrologers can predict how relationships will develop and offer advice on improving them by looking at our birth charts. People are consistently evolving, and even if they don’t have a compatible zodiac sign, the relationship can succeed with intentional work and effective communication.

“Honestly, zodiac signs are a tool, and you use it to perfect your perception and have a wider lens to understand the world around you from different perspectives,” Bouligny said. “There is a deeper level of consciousness when using zodiac signs, and you don’t fully understand a person until you actually have a conversation with them.”

What people are saying?

The Defender asked the people what they thought. Here are some of your responses.

“I hate this topic. I find it insulting when people reduce me to the day I was born. They say everything I’ve worked hard for and the person I’ve become has nothing to do with merits, handwork, dedication, sacrifices, working on myself, etc. But just a tiny little stupid star somewhere.”- Ogo

“No. These patterns are often unresolved trauma [that] people haven’t processed.”- U.E.

“People use zodiac signs as a foundational point to identify personality traits. I don’t think you can truly know someone’s personality unless you’ve seen them in all seasons.”- Emeka
