Astros and Dusty Baker win World Series (2022)

After stepping in to return some respect to the Astros organization, veteran manager Dusty Baker guided the Astros to the World Series title. At 73, Baker became the oldest manager to win a championship in one of the four major North American sports. 

Rockets back-to-back NBA Championships (1994 & 1995)

Led by Hakeem Olajuwon, the Rockets won consecutive NBA titles, defeating the New York Knicks in 1994 and the Orlando Magic in 1995. Suddenly, the city was nicknamed Twoston. These remain the city’s only NBA championships.

University of Houstonโ€™s โ€œPhi Slama Jamaโ€ era

The University of Houston Cougars basketball team, led by players like Hakeem Olajuwon and Clyde Drexler, reached three consecutive Final Fours (1982-1984) with a high-flying, fast-paced style that captivated the nation.

Astros win the 2017 World Series

The Astros captured the first World Series title in franchise history, defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers in a thrilling seven-game series. It was a monumental moment for the city, especially in the wake of Hurricane Harvey.

Texans’ first playoff win (2012)

In their first-ever playoff appearance, the Texans defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 31-10, marking a significant milestone for the franchise.
