Man, it’s a sad day for hip-hop. Atlanta’s own Rich Homie Quan, the rapper who gave us unforgettable hits like “Type of Way” and “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh),” has passed away at just 33 years old. The news came from the Fulton County Medical Examiner, who said that Grady Memorial Hospital notified them of Quan’s death on Thursday. Details about the cause of his death are still under wraps, with an autopsy scheduled for Friday.

Rich Homie Quan, born Dequantes Devontay Lamar, first made waves in the rap game back in 2013. His breakout track “Type of Way” took over the airwaves and became an anthem, even finding a special place in college football. Michigan State’s Rose Bowl squad adopted the track as their rally cry after their huge win over Stanford in 2014. Coach Mark Dantonio even posted a tribute on X (formerly Twitter), sharing a pic of the two together after that epic win, writing: “RIP @RichHomieQuan Special Time, Special Place with Special People” with praying hands emoji.

Rapper Boosie Badazz also shared his grief on social media, remembering the good times they shared. “GOOD ASS MEMORIES TOGETHER N THAT GO ALWAYS BRING A SMILE TO MY FACE. #restupquan,” Boosie wrote, hinting that they had been working on music together before Quan’s passing.

Rich Homie Quan’s influence extended beyond just his own hits—he was part of XXL’s Freshman Class in 2014 alongside artists like Chance the Rapper and Ty Dolla $ign. His collabs with some of the biggest names in the game, including 2 Chainz, Young Thug, Gucci Mane, and Trinidad James, helped him cement his legacy in hip-hop. Though his life was tragically cut short, his impact on the culture and the music will live on. #RestUpQuan.
