The Thurgood Marshall School of Law hosted an Evening of Excellence, celebrating the 50-plus year career of Judge Alice Bonner. Part of the festivities included the unveiling of a portrait of Bonner, the first Black woman judge in the city of Houston. Judge April Walker officiated the event which Gary Bledsoe, Yvonne Bonner Holley, Mayor Sylvester Turner, James Douglas, Toni Jackson and others offered remarks praising Bonner. Other attendees included Judge Zinetta Burney, artist Ted Ellis, Robin Burgess, Algenita Scott Davis, Robert A. Jones, Demethra Orion, Judge Veronica Morgan-Price, Prudence Smith and others.
