Emboldened from the overall bipartisan agreement that the Democratic National Convention (DNC) was all that, Kamala Harris supporters are ready to hit the campaign trail to elect her to the highest office in the land. With impassioned speeches, symbolic moments, and a celebration of unity, the convention captivated audiences nationwide. So, while we’re ready to “Do Something,” we have to take a pause and look back at the 10 best moments from the event:

1. Ain’t nothin’ like a DNC party

The roll call vote, a hallmark of any DNC, reached a thrilling peak thanks to the DNC’s innovative spin on the roll call. DJ Cassidy played state-themed music as each state announced their delegate count in support of Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. But unlike years past, the ceremonial count was no average step-up-to-the-mic-and-speak event (see the Republican National Convention roll call for reference). The music really hyped up the DNC roll call. From Tupac’s “California” for Cali to Beyonce’s “Texas Hold’Em” for Texas, everyone danced and waited with bated breath for the next state. I think we all can agree, Georgia set it off the most when Lil Jon came out singing “From the Windows to the Walz.” The whole atmosphere was a party vibe. I mean, who has ever been glued to their TVs for a convention roll call??

2. Michelle Obama is tired of going high

Former First Lady Michelle Obama delivered a powerful address (as if we doubted that she would). Our Forever FLOTUS had several gems that will be played for years to come. But you can tell, Mrs. Obama is fed up with the vitriol Donald Trump has dumped on her family for years. Her line “….Somebody want to tell him that’s a Black job he’s seeking” received a standing ovation.

3. Barack Obama does what he does best

Former President Barack Obama brought humor and nostalgia to the convention, as usual. Forty-four took more of a unity approach as he urged us to get out and vote. He, too, lit the crowd when he reminded us that “The sequel is never as good as the first,” about those who may be thinking about re-electing Trump. His seasoned presence served as a reminder of the stakes in November.

4. Hakeem Jeffries spitting bars

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries stole the show with his witty and relatable analogy: “It’s time we break up with that toxic boyfriend—division and disunity—and start a new relationship with progress.” The crowd roared in approval as Jeffries laid out the path forward, calling for the party to embrace unity and reject cynicism.

5. Oprah’s “Common Sense Over Nonsense” Mantra

Media mogul Oprah Winfrey delivered a rousing endorsement of the Democratic platform, urging voters to choose “common sense over nonsense.” Her speech cut through the noise, emphasizing the need for practical solutions and grounded leadership. The line quickly became a rallying cry across social media, encapsulating the party’s message of hope and reason.

6. Gus Walz became America’s nephew

While people love Vice-Presidential candidate Tim Walz, his 17-year-old son Gus Walz stole the show. His tearful exuberance and cries of “That’s my dad” brought an endearing and authentic touch to the event. Gus’s joyful energy and pride in watching his father highlighted the convention’s emphasis on family values, generational continuity, and the personal connections that drive public service. His appearance provided a heartfelt moment that contrasted with the intensity of the political speeches, reminding everyone that the campaign is about building a better future for the next generation. And if you’re wondering just how many people were touched by Gus, who is a nondivergent young adult, head over to X and look at the way people came to his defense at the GOP trolls who dared say something negative about the teen.

7. Bye, Bye, Biden

President Joe Biden delivered a powerful and emotional speech that captured both the urgency of the current political climate and his vision for the future. Biden, who stepped aside to allow Kamala to run, received a 10-minute standing ovation. During his speech, he highlighted key achievements of his administration, while also rallying the party to face the challenges ahead with unity and resolve.

8. Stories of Women’s Struggles for Reproductive Rights

A series of deeply personal stories shared by women highlighted the continued battle over reproductive rights. From young women to older advocates, the speakers shared their abortion experiences with raw honesty, underscoring the importance of protecting access to reproductive healthcare. The emotional testimonies were met with tears and standing ovations, emphasizing the party’s commitment to preserving those rights.

9. Shining a light on Project 2025

Saturday Night Live star Kenan Thompson humorously wheeled out a giant version of the Project 2025 book as part of the DNC’s effort to continue shining a light on the conservative “Mandate for Leadership.” Despite the comedic prop, Democrats emphasized the real threat the 900-page policy plan poses, as it aims to dismantle much of what the Biden administration has achieved. The project, which includes a playbook for enacting sweeping changes and training potential appointees, has become a key talking point for Democrats, symbolizing the dangers of a Trump victory.

10. Vice President Kamala Harris’ Commanding Speech

Vice President Kamala Harris closed the convention with a speech that was equal parts fire and vision. She underscored the administration’s accomplishments while challenging the party to go further in tackling economic injustice, gun violence, and systemic racism. Harris’ powerful delivery and clear vision for the future solidified her status as a pivotal leader in the party.

HONORABLE MENTION:

Waiting for the Queen Bey

Rumors buzzed wildly on the final night of the DNC as speculation grew that Beyoncé would make a surprise appearance. TMZ even “exclusively” reported her involvement as officials teased a “special guest,” fueling excitement. Across Chicago, supposed Beyoncé sightings added to the frenzy. But while everyone eagerly awaited her arrival, Queen Bey was actually sipping her new whiskey elsewhere, probably laughing at the spectacle. The much-hyped special guest turned out to be Vice President Kamala Harris. DNC officials later explained they didn’t want Beyoncé’s star power to overshadow the crucial message from Madam VP. And honestly, as much as we love Beyoncé, we’re perfectly fine with that.
