Malcolm-Jamal Warner joins a growing list of Black men gone before their time. What can we do to change this deadly tide? Credit: Desiree Navarro/WireImage/Getty Images.

On July 20, 2025, Malcolm‑Jamal Warner—beloved son/brother “Theo Huxtable” on The Cosby Show, Grammy‑winning musician, activist and storyteller—tragically drowned while vacationing with his daughter in Costa Rica.

He was only 54 years old.

But what about actor extraordinaire Chadwick Boseman, who passed at 43? Or NFL Hall of Famer Larry Allen (53), musician Casey Benjamin (45), actor Michael K. Williams (54) and so many more?

Why are our brothers, fathers, uncles, cousins, friends, co-workers, community advocates, educators and more leaving this earth at ages so young it seemingly makes no sense?

And what can we do about it… to turn the tide, and change this heart-wrenching reality?
