Born in Houston and raised in Channelview, Hurts was coached by his father, Averion Hurts Sr., at Channelview High School, where he showcased his dual-threat capabilities as a quarterback. His mother, Pamela Hurts, served as a school counselor, instilling in him the values of education and perseverance. This solid upbringing propelled him to collegiate success at both the University of Alabama and the University of Oklahoma, before making his mark in the NFL.

In Super Bowl LIX, Hurts delivered an outstanding performance, completing 17 of 22 passes for 221 yards and two touchdowns, along with 72 rushing yards and an additional touchdown. His leadership and poise were instrumental in securing the Eagles’ victory and earned him the well-deserved MVP honors.
Hurts’ success resonates deeply within the Houston community, especially among young Black athletes who see in him a reflection of their own aspirations. His journey underscores the importance of community support, familial guidance, and personal determination. As we celebrate his accomplishments, we also recognize the collective effort of those who have supported him along the way.
