Scores of friends and supporters gathered recently at the Marriot Marquis Houston for Mayor Sylvester Turner’s birthday celebration. Recognized nationally as one of the most effective mayors in the country for his ability to effectively deal with natural disasters, economic challenges and the responsibilities of leading the city’s efforts to host multiple major sporting events, Turner took in the well wishes, fellowship and all-around positive feeling in the room as he celebrated the blessing of another year. The theme for the evening was reflected by the words on Turner’s birthday cake which read “Promises Made, Promises Kept.” Attendees included Ashley Turner, Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale, Dr. Rod Paige, Judge Zinetta Burney, Stephanie Nellons-Paige, Marvalette Hunter, Elijah Williams, Cheryl Creuzot, Ellis Hubbard, LaTanya Miles, Reggie Wilson, Wash Allen, Leslie Bacon, State Senator Borris Miles, Claude Cummings and several others.
