On June 9, the final celebration of life for Houston native and Jack Yates alumni George Floyd took place at the Fountain of Praise Church. Reverend Al Sharpton gave the eulogy while parents of several other victims of police violence were in attendance and asked to stand in one of the ceremony’s most stirring moments. Floyd was laid to rest in a Pearland cemetery next to his mother.
